Juniors Week 6
Hello Junior Families!
What an exciting week it has been! With Grandparents Visiting Day, Apache Relay and Olympics, the little ones have been busy this week playing games and running around! They’ve been able to showcase all the awesome things they’ve worked on this summer, which has been so fun to watch!
The Juniors loved getting to show their grandparents around camp on Sunday and getting to go to activities with them! They got to perform a few songs from their play for their grandparents, and got to lead a campfire for the first time! They were so excited to pretend to be Romrec and show all the songs they’ve learned all summer. They also got to enjoy a nice lunch with them before saying goodbye. After the grandparents left, the camp gathered in the Rec Hall to watch High School Musical! The girls had so much fun singing along with the movie. That night, we had an indoor campfire due to weather that ended in an Olympic fake out! The whole camp ran to the basketball courts and watched as the alumnae began to play the Olympic music, only to change the song and start dancing! It really got the camp in the mood for Olympics!
On Monday, the girls participated in the camp wide lip sync battle! Each bunk prepared three songs, and one bunk from each division got to perform in front of the whole camp. While the Senior A’s walked away victorious, the Juniors had so much fun getting to prepare and perform! They also enjoyed supporting their friends on stage, especially their camp sisters when they won!
Tuesday, the camp gathered for Apache Relay! The camp was split into two teams, Shawnee and Kiawa. Each division had certain games or challenges they needed to complete, culminating in Romrec burning a rope on the waterfront and jumping into the lake! The Juniors had to do things such as picking 10 M&Ms out of whipped cream without using their hands, running around the Wishing Well singing songs, and crawl under a parachute. They loved getting to compete with the older campers and be apart of a team!
That night, Olympics finally broke out! It began with all staff and campers reporting to the tennis courts, and fireworks in the four colors; red, blue, green and white, going off in front of Romrec. Then, four spotlights, one in each color, were lit up against Romrec. Finally, another set of colored spotlights appeared on the roof, with a staff member walking up and unveiling one of the flags! It finished with Daniel emerging from Romrec with the Olympic flag accompanied by the Olympic music. The Juniors were in awe of the breakout and had so much fun watching it. From there, the camp gathered to crown captains and lieutenants for each time and find out which team they were on. It was an exciting day, and the Juniors couldn’t wait for Olympics to start!
The next three days will filled with Olympic fun! The first day, the Juniors competed in rock climbing and the track meet, and got to participate in a quiz about camp in the evening! The next day, they participated in gymnastics, the swim meet and landsports, where they got to play their favorite game of ga-ga ball! That night, each country put on a fun skit about their country and the juniors all had a special part and song in each performance. On the third day, the Juniors competed in kickball and the small crafts competition. That night, each group performed the three songs they have been working on all week to complete Olympics. These songs were so beautiful and well done, each team did an amazing job.
While Olympics may be over, this next week is jam packed with special events. Between Secret Show, movie day and Banquet, next week is going to be so much fun for the girls as the summer begins to come to a close. The Juniors are ready to make every moment count, as it’s hard to believe that next week will be our last together. It has been such a privilege getting to know each of your children, and I can’t wait to see what surprises this last week has in store.
Warmly,
Mary
