Romrec Week 7
Good morning Romrec Parents,
Hard to believe camp is over. :( The sound of silence echoing throughout the Berkshires is gloomy. This past week was an unforgettable one. While the girls were preparing for their “Secret Show” we also had the opportunity to go to SubsWay. The Sub Senior girls had a Hawaiian Luau theme and served the whole camp a variety of island food while we played and jumped on moon bounces and water slides. We also had the opportunity to take a run for soft serve at Hinsdale Trading Company to cool us down. That night, girls unveiled their secret show. Their theme was Annie and their show was fantastic. They truly brought the house down. The opening dance was phenomenal, the choreography was amazing, and the script was hilarious, touching and remarkably clever. The impersonations were impeccable. The songs took our breathe away and provoked tears. The scenery was top notch. It was nothing short of a Broadway production. I can’t list enough adjectives in the dictionary to truly describe their show and how wonderful they were in it. Then we had our last campfire. Romrec once again made me proud. They presented their shack ‘n back plaque and talked about the experience of swimming from the shores of Lake Plunket to the shack on the other side of lake. They all etched their names on the shack so their plaque represented that experience. They also presented their 3-day hike plaque which presented their journey to the summit. I must say, these girls are truly artists when it comes to displaying their experience in an art form. Lastly they presented their gift to the camp from their trip to Cape Cod. They gave Jeff and Daniel a pillow with all their initials. The motto on the pillow was about camp being their summer home. While all these great evening activities are taking place our days are filled with activities. We had a remarkably sunny summer and we were able to be outside in activities almost every single day. Counselor Show was also amazing. Their theme was Hannah Montana and the entire camp thoroughly enjoyed it. Annex put on a wonderful Banquet. Their theme was Fairy Tales and the entire evening was truly a Happily Ever After ending. The meal was great. Romrec presented the spirit awards. Several received their 5 year bracelets and some were recognized on the Loyalty Plaque for being here 6 years. 10 year and 20 year gifts were also given out. All in all the evening was spectacular and Romrec looked absolutely beautiful all dressed up. Thursday night was wish night, of course. It’s bittersweet for Romrec. We all light a candle, make a wish and say goodbye. We burn 2016 and celebrate the end of wonderful summer. After wish night Romrec has the privilege of leaving their legacy behind by signing their name on the Rec Hall wall. Before that, their counselors read them a letter describing their journey with them this summer and how they feel about each and every one of them. It’s a very emotional night. The girls also took the time to say goodbye to their summer home since it’s the last time they’ll be here as a camper. They take a little of camp home with them as well. Water from the Lake Plunkett, dirt from the ground we walk on and air from the Berkshire Mountains. It’s very sentimental. By now, your daughter is probably back home with you crying her eyes out. Those of us still at camp are also teary eyed and miss the girls terribly but if we close our eyes and listen very carefully I think I can still hear their voices singing the praises of Camp Romaca! We miss you Romrec, oh yes we do.. We miss you Romrec and we’ll be true. When you’re not near us, we’re blue. Oh Romrec we miss you! We love you!
See you in 2017!
