Hello Clubhouse Families!
Olympics is afoot, and what a crazy 36 hours it has been!!! The breakout was terrifyingly incredible! There were a few “intruders” on camp who, dressed in all black, ran past the girls all over camp and towards Lagoon Field. The girls could tell right away that something was happening, so they began to chase the commotion. Cop cars soon arrived on the scene, and parked so that their lights created a stage by the brush at the far corner of the field. One by one, each of the four “intruders” came out with their hands up. They were then told by the police to remove their sweatshirts and reveal themselves. Each man was wearing an Olympic color (red, white, blue, and green), and they unveiled the 4 flags for their respective team: Australia, India, Scotland, and Ireland. The air was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as the girls made their way to the Gymnastics Pavilion to discover their teams.
Sat in a circle on the floor, Clubhouse and their counselors joined hands and waited eagerly for the teams to be announced. Daniel Atkins read his way through the names of the Romrec captains, then the Annex lieutenants, and finally to Clubhouse. The girls could not believe it was their turn to be in one of the “fated” circles awaiting their names to be called. It was a spectacular moment, as the girls looked around the circle at one another wondering which of their friends might be chosen with the high honor of representing the division as a leader of a team.
As all four names were called the girls ran to tackle their friends in a flood of tears and joyful emotion. It was so special to watch how excited the girls were for their friends, and how shocked those chosen were at hearing their names announced as lieutenants.
As Senior B’s, the girls have a lot more responsibilities during Olympics, which include: helping to write the songs for Sing, helping to teach the songs to the entire team, and leading the way as role models for the younger girls. I cannot wait to see how they step up to the plate, and I know they will do great things and inspire the younger girls to be as courageous, kind, and compassionate as they are.
I hope you all have a wonderful week, as we are sure to have one filled with fun!
Best, Lauren
