Juniors, Week 4
Hi Junior Families!
WOW what a fun, busy week the Juniors have had!! Visiting Day on Sunday went so well, with the weather cooperating and the sun shining the whole day! It was obvious how happy and pumped the girls were to show their parents all the new skills that they have learned so far this summer. It’s always so fun to see how proud the girls are of Romaca, and how excited they are to introduce their counselors and new friends to their families. We ended the day with a huge spa party in bunk 3, where the girls got the chance to give their counselors (and myself!) makeovers. We also brought out the nail polish and face masks and turned the whole thing into an evening of relaxation! The Juniors began their week with Counselor Hunt, where all the counselors hide and the campers have to find them. They went around with their camp sisters, and it was just a giant game of hide and seek! On Tuesday, after our normal activity-filled day, we had our traditional square dancing event with Cliff Brodeur. All the counselors braided the girls hair, and dolled them up with fake freckles and plaid shirts. Then we all headed to the Rec Hall for some country dancing! Everyone learned dances such as the Cotton Eyed Joe, Hoedown Throwdown, and Promenade. It was SUCH a good time! Wednesday was an extremely busy day as it was our trip day with the Inters AND our Juniors hike in the same day! Our Trip Day consisted of a trip to the Springfield Zoo, where the girls got to pet and interact with all kinds of different animals, including petting a GIANT boa constrictor snake! After the zoo, we ate lunch at a nearby park and then we all traveled to Friendly’s for delicious Fribble milkshakes. After all their bellies were full, we all headed out to the Springfield Museum. We started out at The Amazing World of Dr. Suess Museum, which was Dr. Suess’s classic stories brought to life!! Each room had his different stories on the wall, on the floors, on the ceilings! With life size statues of all his famous characters; such as The Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, Thing 1 and Thing 2, The Grinch, and even Horton from Horton Hears a Who! After the Dr.Suess Museum, we all headed into the Natural History Museum and the girls got to witness life-size dinosaurs in the dinosaur hall and got to venture in the African safari in the R.E. Phelon African Hall! Afterwards, the campers headed into the science building and Seymour Planetarium, where they learned all about space and the planets. Our final stop was in the museum gift store (of course!) and so many campers bought their favorite stuffed animal, jars of slime, and Dr. Suess t-shirts! All in all, it was such a great outing!! That evening once we got back to camp, we ate dinner and gathered all of our things needed for our hike. The Juniors and their counselors all traveled up to the nature building to set up tents and make s’mores for the evening. Every camper had a really good time getting the opportunity to sleep in tents. Luckily it was a comfortable night and all the girls were very cozy! It was impressive to see how easy-going and adaptable all the Juniors were sleeping in tents. It was so much fun and the perfect ending to a perfect day!
All in all, it was a busy and exciting week. There was definitely a lot going on and everyone has been full of smiles good memories. I think everyone is starting to realize how quickly the summer goes by; if only it would slow down!!
Till next week,
Fretts
