Debs, Week 6
Hi Deb Parents,
Wow!! What a crazy and fun week we just had at camp! It was packed with so many amazing activities that had your girls laughing and playing together! We finally had our much anticipated Deb Carnival and as luck would have it the weather was hot and sunny for us on Saturday! It was the perfect weather for the slip n slide and the dunk tank, everyone was happy to get soaking wet! I can now announce that our secret theme was “HOLLYWOOD” (if you haven’t already heard from your daughters) and the girls dressed as movie stars with the counselors as their paparazzi and I was the movie director! Your girls did full hair and makeup and were gorgeous movie stars! The day was a blast and it started bright and early as the Debs got to wake up the whole camp by running around banging on pots and pans! It was very loud and the girls loved being in charge! They announced their theme at flagpole and got to dance through the dining hall at breakfast signing our traditional Deb Carnival song that hasn’t changed since I was a camper! All day long the girls took turns running our carnival booths, playing the games and collecting tickets! They enjoyed eating all of the yummy carnival food…snow cones, popcorn, and cotton candy!
We attended our final show at camp, “Wicked”, performed by the Juniors/Inters. It was a really fun show to watch as many of our girls know and love the music!! Sunday was another fun and busy day as we had a chance to bond with lots of Bubbies and Poppy’s on Grandparents Visiting Day! After the grandparents left we jumped right into Apache Relay, an all camp favorite activity of many, including myself. All divisions are divided into two teams, Kiawa and Shawnee, and the girls get all dressed up in their green and white gear to participate in part of this giant relay race. The race ends at the waterfront where all the campers and counselors gather to cheer on Romrec as the two teams work to build a fire and burn a rope. Once the rope burns, the Romrec girls run into the water (in their flannel shirts, bandanas, and braids) and hug, sing songs and bond. It was a very emotional moment for everyone.
There has been a ton of excitement in the air as the girls were eagerly anticipating the break out of Olympics. Every place they turned they were looking for clues to figure out when and where it would break out. There were a few great fake outs that kept everyone on their toes until it finally broke out on Tuesday night in the middle of evening activity which was a gymnastics showcase. The entire camp headed down to the Lagoon Field where the Olympics break out took place with Jeff, Daniel, Lauren and Debra carrying the lit Olympics torches. Next the entire camp went back to Gymnastics, where the teams were revealed, and the captains and lieutenants were named ! It was a very exciting and emotional night for all of the girls. The night ended with the traditional crowning and torch ceremony that begins Olympics each year at Romaca. We all recited the Olympic motto, “I hereby pledge that I will, during these Olympic days at Camp Romaca, play hard, play fair, and with good sportsmanship throughout the Romaca Games.” Go green, white, blue and red!! Everyone is so excited for the next few days of Olympic activities!!
It’s hard to believe that the last week of camp is upon us and that we will be saying goodbye to each other and our summer home so soon. We still have a lot of fun, traditional activities that make up the last week of every summer. Thank you all for sharing your precious girls with me this summer, I’m off to enjoy every moment of this last week I have with them!!
Best,
Carly
