Clubhouse 7 Week 6

Hi Clubhouse families,

It’s Olympics o’clock here in Hinsdale, Mass!

On Tuesday night, we had our talent show at the Waterfront. After a few awesome dancing, gymnastics, and singing acts, the Trainees came onstage for the finale. One by one, each of them stripped their black t-shirts off to reveal red, white, blue, and green tops, and as each Trainee changed their outfits, they faded backstage, where they were replaced by a Romrec counselor wearing the corresponding color, holding an Olympic crown. The last staff member to emerge with Olympic garb was me, who took a staged fall while holding the Olympic flag, resulting in a “fractured knee” and a “cancelled” breakout. However, after an ambulance came to take me for “xrays”, other Advisory staff members emerged from behind the car with this year’s Olympics country flags, followed by myself, who popped out of the ambulance, fully revived, holding the Olympics flag.

An incredibly emotional crowning ceremony revealed this year’s Olympics teams - USA (white), Panama (red), Iceland (blue), and Kenya (green). Following crowning, the Clubhouse girls participated in “shotting songs” for the first time as Senior B’s, where all the CH7, Annex, and RR girls run back and forth between each of the four teams’ “stations” on Senior B bunk porches, in order to claim songs that their team will want to use for Sing (the purpose behind this process being that this way, two teams won’t use the same song). It was so exciting to see the girls living out a privilege they’ve waited so long to participate in…plus, camp ordered in pizzas for them to eat while they ran, which was a great morale booster!

Between hilarious skits on night 2, gorgeously decorated plaques which will hang in the Rec Hall to commemorate Olympics 2021 for years to come on day 3, and beautiful songs (featuring “Peps” written by your daughters) sung at Sing during night 3, this year’s Olympics games were a smash hit. Along with our creative events, we’re so thankful to have had an Olympics track meet, swim meet, small crafts event, tennis invite, and more to fill the void that our lack of intercamps due to COVID created.

Now that Olympics has come to an end, tonight we have Secret Show - a play put on by the Romrec girls that includes an opening song and dance that features help from the Clubhouse and Annex girls. This is a performance CH7 has been looking forward to for the past 7 weeks, which will be met with much excitement, but also many empty hearts, as Secret Show is an event that signifies the end of a summer. I’m excited to see the awesome job Clubhouse does, but sad to know that our summer is quickly coming to an end. I wish they could stay at camp forever!!

Hi families, Another busy week at Romaca. Our Saturday began with the Romaca Relay. The girls were divided into the green and white teams to compete in an all camp relay race which ended at the waterfront and rope burning. To say I was proud of the annex girls would be an understatement. Annex ran back and forth collecting wood so that the Romrec girls can build the fire building. They all ran and worked so hard to represent their division. When the rope burned through, the they all charged into the water to celebrate together. On Sunday we had counselor hunt and a gymnastic showcase. Everyone was excited to watch and each division had the opportunity to compete in a head and handstand competition. On Monday evening Annex set up a nightclub for the super juniors and juniors. They assigned themselves jobs of bar tenders (soda pourers) bouncers and animators. The younger groups had so much fun dancing with their older camp sisters. On Tuesday morning, the entire camp was woken up by pots and pans by the Debs group. This is our traditional wake up which represents the start of Debs Carnival. This year the theme of Debs Carnival was… the creepy carnival! Our evening activity of talent show ended up with a dramatic fall from a group head and an ambulance arriving all to create an elaborate olympic breakout. The Lieutenants and captains were named and the camp was divided into the teams of Kenya, Iceland, Panama and the U.S.A. The events have been non-stop, the spirit wear has been insane, and the singing and team work have been incredible so far this olympics. We finish this evening with Sing and the winners will be crowned. With no break from excitement we will be moving into an intense week of banquet preparation and end of year shows! I can’t believe the summer is nearly over!
