Dear Senior As Families,
As we near the end of camp, the girls have continued to make memories and strengthen their bonds through talent showcases, Olympics, and more.
On Monday, we joined together as a camp to celebrate our hard work in gymnastics with a showcase! Many girls in our division performed their solo floor routines and everyone participated in the handstand competition. It was amazing to see how supportive the girls were of each other, chanting their support before and after each performance. That night, we had a night swim for evening activity! It was a bit cold, but the campers were so excited to have the lake to themselves for this special night of memories. Everyone had a lot of fun taking over the waterfront Senior A style, complete with noodles and the wibit.
The next day was Deb Carnival! The Debs woke us up by banging on pots and pans and then announced their 2021 theme: “creepy carnival”. The girls had so much fun playing games and winning prizes while enjoying shaved ice and popcorn. Everyone partnered up for a morbid marriage and had their faces painted by the Creative Arts staff. The haunted house was the best yet according to the girls, featuring a scary story about an eerily empty camp in 2020 and the designation of bunk 16 as the quarantine bunk. The girls took adorable pictures in the carnival sign and enjoyed getting soaked on the slip n slide and at the dunk tank.
That evening, we gathered as a camp at the waterfront for a talent show. Everyone enjoyed entertaining gymnastics routines, dances, original songs, and skits. At the end, Olympics broke out!!! We all rushed to the gymnastics pavilion where Daniel and Jeff announced this year’s teams. The Senior As were so proud and supportive of this year’s captains and lieutenants. They are so excited for the opportunity to be lieutenants next year for their Clubhouse summer! At the torch ceremony, our division was emotional along with the Senior Bs as they recognized that camp is coming to an end. The Senior A mommies brought everyone together that night and celebrated the start of Olympics with an ice cream cake party in bunk 19. The girls reminisced and planned to make this last week our best yet.
Wednesday was Day One of Olympics. The girls met with their teams for the first time of many and signed up for events. In the morning, the teams competed in sailing, rock climbing, softball, and fitness. After lunch and time with their team to prep for Sing, the girls competed in a track competition. The Senior As really shone in the 60 yard dash, softball throw, shuttle relay, and obstacle course. That evening, we gathered together for an Olympic competition in the Rec Hall. The Senior As, along with the Subs, competed in Name that Tune. My favorite moment was when they played “Cruisin for a Bruisin,” our winning lipsync song from the beginning of the summer, and all the Senior As jumped to answer after only a few beats!
On Day Two, the teams competed in tennis, gymnastics, and landsports. Our doubles teams took down the competition at tennis and secured top spots for their respective teams! In gymnastics, the girls showed off their hard work with more hard competition. In the afternoon, the Senior As, alongside Clubhouse, played a volleyball tournament. The teams were very evenly matched and the girls had to fight hard to win the close competition. That evening, the teams competed in the PAWS skit event. The Senior As wrote jingles for every division to perform throughout the skits and took the stage themselves to sing about national treasures representing their country like seafood, meat stew, and tamales.
Day Three began with a swim meet. The girls competed in relays featuring inner tubes and different strokes. In the afternoon, the fun continued at the waterfront with the small crafts competition. The girls spent the rest of the day perfecting their songbooks and plaques for the closing night. Each team performed their pep, cheer, and sweet in the Rec Hall, finalizing the 2021 Olympic scores. After the winner was announced, we all joined together at flagpole to honor our captains and lieutenants once more and bring the games to an end.
Warm Regards, Amanda
