Hello Junior Families,
After 10 long months of waiting, the best day of the year finally arrived! As the cars rolled into the parking lot, and the first wave of campers arrived, the excitement in the air had us jumping, singing, and dancing for joy! The first bus finally arrived, and we greeted all with our welcome songs. At the first glimpse of the juniors, we were all in awe of how cute they are, and how excited they were to be starting their camp journey!
After a long day of unpacking, we squeezed into the dining hall and the songs and chants began, and when Jeff announced we would be having Pizza Friday instead of the standard turkey dinner, the camp went wild! The excitement didn’t end there, as we headed to our first campfire and wish night. The juniors were able to observe our camp song and traditions first hand, with the lighting of our papa bear candle, to honor William Goddard, aka Papa Bear, and each lit a candle and blew it to make a wish!
On opening day we jumped straight into activities, starting with Gymnastics! With a variety of skill sets, it was a joy to see the girls teaching each other different skills, and having fun showing off what they already knew! For our evening activity, the whole camp rushed to the Rec Hall, to watch our staff perform in Get To Know Your Counselor! Here the staff from each department put on a fun skit, song or dance to introduce themselves to the campers!
On Sunday, we had our pictures taken in the morning, ready for the yearbook and then completed our chores for the morning! I then brought round a fun game of ‘Counselor Bingo’ where the girls had to run from bunk to bunk, and around camp to find the counselor in the division who matched the fun fact! It was so great to see them taking the time to learn about the counselors, as well as see what everyone had in common! We then jumped into one of the best opening weekend activities, PREDATOR!! The girls were split into groups, mimicking the food chain! We have Mosquitoes, Spinders, Shrews, Snakes, Hawks, and the girls run around camp from feeding station to feeding station, in a giant game of tag!
Some of the evening activities we had this week included Twin Night, Traditional Party Games, Musical Chairs, Draw Something: Charades and Stuck in the Mud! We also took the time to write letters to our end of camp selves, with everything we hope to accomplish and the things we’re looking forward to!
As we look to next week, we’re looking forward to the start of Romacan Divisional shows and 4th of July, with all its activities and celebrations!
Can’t wait to fill you in on our next week of fun!
Love, AJ
