Hello Deb Families!
I cannot believe that Week 2 has come to an end and it is time for a Blog again! Time is flying by here at camp and we are desperate for the days to slow down. Even though we are still getting some rain, the days are finally starting to get sunny. Between the sun and rain, this week was FULL of Special Events since we had a holiday!
We started the week with a Deb’s Kickball Invitational up on Atkins Field where the Deb’s took home second place. I am so proud of the girls and how well they worked together. We have been fighting the heat head on and putting on LOTS of sunscreen. The UV rays in Massachusetts are truly no joke. We also kicked off our camper phone calls where a lot of you were finally able to connect with your beautiful Debs. I know the girls were looking forward to connecting home so it made me happy that they got to talk to you.
Come Tuesday is when the real excitement happened. Happy 4th of July! We started the day with a late wakeup, a camp favorite, then had the girls participate in our Rap Battle. Rap Battle is where each bunk is given a word that correlates to Fourth of July and they get to create a remix to a song of their choice. They then perform it to the rest of camp. After lunch we did Paint Your Counselor, a personal favorite, where we got jugs of red, white and blue paint and the campers were able to paint any counselor they wanted to get them ready for the “fashion show”. Each division then showed off their art on the runway and jumped directly into the lake after. It was an afternoon full of laughs and an eventual purple paint.
On Wednesday we had our first swim meet of the summer and Romaca got second place (only by a couple points) but it was amazing watching all of the campers show off their skills. We truly do have so much talent here at camp. That night we had Brother/Sister dinner at Greylock followed by Staff Swap where the kids were able to “purchase” a counselor for a day to do an activity. These activities could be things like an ice cream party, a spa night, or breakfast in bed. Raffled items are things that the bunk could all bond over together and that the counselor is in charge of organizing. The campers get really into it and we as a staff sign up with entertaining options to choose from.
On Friday the Deb’s had a basketball tournament where they played their hearts out followed by a Winadu Brother/Sister lunch. It was definitely a busy day for our Debs.
We have another busy week coming up so make sure to keep an eye out for my next blog! By then I should have permission from our girls to share our Debs Carnival theme. Just know, I am absolutely in LOVE with it. Have a great week everyone!
With Much Love,
Ashley, The Director of Fun for the Debs
