Hello Junior Families,
Another week has slipped through our fingers, but what a fun week it was!
Starting out the week with a camper favorite, making our way to the heart of Romaca, The Campfire. As we sang our songs, laughed, and danced, the rainbow colored sections lit up the area and reminded us of how lucky we are to be together.
On Monday, we jumped back into our activity areas, trying our best to avoid even more rain! The girls participated in Gymnastics and Small Crafts, before moving into their elective periods. We finished up our day by decorating an individual puzzle piece that when completed made up their bunk flag! They can’t wait to show you on visiting day!
Tuesday brought us the day of freedom, 4TH OF JULY!! Campers and counselors alike dressed in red, white and blue, ready for the day of activities, old and new! We started off with a classic rap battle, where each bunk was given a set of words to include in the rap. After a while (and a snack!) we bundled into the Rec Hall to watch everyone perform! We chanted and cheered for our girls, so proud of them for getting up and putting together their raps all by themselves! The excitement was building, as we moved into everyone’s favorite 4th of July tradition, Paint Your Counselor! With body safe paint, the girls were able to paint us red, white and blue (or purple as the colors mixed!) but it wasn’t long before the whole camp was covered in paint! All the international staff sang their national anthem, and we ended by jumping in the lake to get all the paint off. We ended the day with a delicious cookout provided by the OOBs.
Wednesday, we returned to our activity areas, participating in Arts and Crafts, Golf, Tennis, Soccer and many more! We joined the rest of camp for our evening activity of Staff Swap! Here the staff auctioned off different activities, and each bunk was given a certain amount of ‘Romacan Dollars” to spend! Thursday brought us another fun day of activities, and an evening activity run by our counselors! They taught the girls how to play ‘Splat’ a game about quick reactions and speed! You get splatted when someone points at you, and you have to duck immediately, then the people on either side of you have to splat each other! Whoever is slowest to the mark, is out! Additionally they played the Australian version of ‘Pacman’ or ‘Line Tiggy’ as it’s called there! They used the lines of the basketball courts, and they’re not allowed to step off the line. A group of people are ‘it’ and tap people to create roadblocks, and once everyone is caught the game ends! The girls loved having their counselors lead the activities!
Moving into Friday, we had our last day of activities before Rookie Day! We attended the climbing wall and high ropes course and volleyball in the morning, and into our electives again for the afternoon! I then ran a fashion show for evening activity! Each bunk was given a theme to dress up in: Hippie, Country, Surfer/Beachy, Party! They strut their stuff to a song of their choice, and then we had a little dance party to finish up!
We look forward to the next week of activities, bringing us events such as DJ Jeff and the Clubhouse Show, and bringing us so close to Visiting Day!!
Love, AJ
