Hello Romrec 2024 families,
What a week it has been!!! I am delighted to be the group head of your girls and to be able to write these weekly b’log updates about what is happening here in Hinsdale!!!
The week started off with a bang with an amazing arrival day. From a fun bus ride up to camp, to cheering as loud as they possibly could in the first dining hall meal, to absolutely killing it in the first campfire circle (wearing the cutest apparel :)), your daughters are and will continue to be such a special Romrec.
On Saturday, the girls got right back into the swing of camp, having a day of divisional activities and meeting the staff through “Get to Know Your Counselor,” later that night. As one of the first all camp activities, Romrec led everyone through cheers and songs and showed their spirit and love for camp.
Sunday was picture day and then right into (many) people’s favorite all camp activity, PREDATOR!!! The girls were divided into 25 teams and each led a group of campers comprised of all different divisions. They finally got to wear and use the highly anticipated whistles, and were so kind and warm to their teammates as they led them through locations around camp.
Later that night it was “Get to Know Your Camper” at Gymnastics and the entire camp got to meet one another through songs and skits. Romrec absolutely SHINED as they presented their long cheer and song, introducing the camp to all of the Romrec 2024 craziness and fun. I, and the rest of the counselors, sat in the audience like such proud mommies singing, “THEY GOT SPIRIT THAT’S NO MAYBE THAT’S BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR BABIES, YAYYYY ROMREC!”
Moving forward a few days, the HIKE came up super quickly!!! Everyone is back and in one piece but it was quite the hike. Climbing up rocks for hours, the girls did not fail to make this journey unforgettable, filling it with laughter, story telling, and of course, singing SONGS! And, those who weren’t able to join for the hike still made an impact on camp, spending the day with younger campers, joining them at activities and hanging out with them!
Aside from these major highlights and milestones from the week, there were so many simple, but meaningful moments that I witnessed and want to share, such as watching the Juniors run up to Romrec any free chance they get, the younger campers forming circles with Romrec at rec swim, and volunteering to give out refreshments at the water front to engage with divisions on camp :)
That’s all for now, we are back from the hike and resting to save energy for lip sync, socials, and the Fourth of July!!! Look out for my update about these events next week :))
XOXO,
Liv
