Hello wonderful junior families,
It feels very bitter sweet to say out loud that today marks the one week to go mark at Camp Romaca. I am personally so, so proud of every single one of your girls and heartbroken at the same time that my time with them is coming to an end. This week we have stepped slightly out of our normal activity schedule, and more so into our all camp activity schedule. And oh boy, how much fun we’ve had!
A big warm special mention to the wonderful grandparents that visited us last weekend for Grandparents Day. It was so heartwarming seeing the girls light up and proudly show their loved ones around the place they’ve called home for the summer. They shared stories of friendship and laugher and told of all their incredible Romacan moments this far.
A big highlight for all of the grandparents I spoke to, was being able to watch their juniors on stage for the highly anticipated Lion King performance. The girls stood a little taller and smiled a little wider at the sight of their grandparents in the crowd cheering them on while they showcased their talents. The show as a whole was breathtaking from start to finish. When we were able to watch on as a camp, the juniors and inters division staff lined the front row with tears flowing! We are so incredibly proud of your girls, always.
The juniors got to experience the Romaca Olympics this week, which has quickly become a season highlight for them! It began with some playful fake outs (fake Olympic break outs) throughout the day that got us all buzzing with anticipation. It was so exciting for the girls to have all the traditions surrounding Olympics, explained by other campers and staff who had experienced it for themselves. Seeing their excitement to be a part of something so big and consuming and Romacan was incredible. After fake outs that left us guessing what was coming next, a dance showcase that suddenly turned from fake out to breakout had the whole camp beside ourselves. It was straight to crowning from there, which was extremely emotional to see the senior campers overwhelmed with joy as they were recognised to lead their teams. We spoke with the juniors about how this could one day be them. Captains and lieutenants chosen, opening ceremony complete, the juniors were off for a restful night before three full days of activities, singing, bonding, cheering and celebrating. Your girls became so connected to their teams during these three days. They flourished in their activities, supported each other and showed so much team spirit. Our first placed team this year was Zimbabwe green team, however ‘everyone is a winner at camp Romaca’. What an incredible event!
Last night the weather finally allowed us to enjoy our campout. I was so impressed with how much the girls were looking forward to camping out. We began with s’mores and sang songs around the campfire, before setting up our tents. The girls spent their time laughing and telling stories into the night. These are the special moments and memories made with friends that I hope they will hold for a life time.
I can’t begin to describe the joy and warmth your girls have brought to my life, and to Camp Romaca over the summer. The juniors most definitely make the world go ’round. We have watched them master new skills, meet new friends, try new things and shine brightly. They have learned, grown, laughed and blossomed, all with the support of true friends that care deeply about them, and staff who adore them for everything that they are. I will never quite be able to put into words how special they are and how much they have impacted all of our lives. As we prepare to say goodbye, we will squeeze them extra tight and cherish every last moment together. Let this final week be the best yet. Thank you again for entrusting me with your girls, it has been a blessing.
Warmest,
Amber xo
