Dear Families,
As we begin to wrap up this extraordinary summer, my heart is full of mixed emotions. I want to take a moment to look back on the past week and share some deeply personal reflections about your remarkable daughters. Being their grouphead has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my Romacan summers, and while the thought of saying goodbye brings a lump to my throat, it also fills me with immense pride and joy.
This week began with a special visit from the grandparents. There was something super sweet about seeing the girls light up as they shared moments with their grandparents. For those whose grandparents couldn’t make it, it was incredibly touching to see some of the Romrecers step in as big sisters, extending their love and support. It was a beautiful example of the family spirit that defines our Romacan Community.
The excitement only grew as we moved into the Romaca Relay. The camp was alive with energy and anticipation as we divided into the Green and White teams. The relay race started with the youngest campers and culminated with your daughters burning the rope. Watching them pour their hearts into this challenge was a moment of pure joy and pride. Their dedication and teamwork were nothing short of inspiring, and they truly excelled in every way.
Later that evening, the atmosphere reached a fever pitch with the start of the Olympics. What a day it was! We were thrilled to see four of our own Romrec girls—Lilian, Avery, Naomi, and Mia—named captains. Their leadership over the next three days was a sight to behold. They guided their teams with strength and confidence, and the support from the other Romrec girls was nothing short of exceptional. It was clear that they were not only fantastic leaders but also outstanding role models for the entire camp.
Though there was a shift in plans for the Romrec show, with the change from performing with Greylock to staging Teen Beach Movie on Wednesday, your daughters embraced the change with enthusiasm. Their excitement for this performance has been palpable since day one, and their creativity and spirit have made it a fitting finale to their final camp experience.
As I reflect on these past weeks, I find myself overwhelmed with emotion. Seeing your daughters evolve into such caring, confident young women has been a privilege and a joy. Camp is a place where one can truly be oneself, and it has been a wonder to watch the Romrec girls embrace their true selves with such openness. Their ability to shed the worries of the outside world and find joy in the little things has been a gift to witness. Being part of their journey this summer has touched me deeply. I am constantly amazed by how much they have grown and how their presence has made each day brighter. My inner child is still in awe of the chance to relive a Romrec summer through their eyes. They have become like little sisters to me, and I look forward to the continued growth of our bond long after camp ends. I promise to always be here for them as they face the world beyond Romaca.
As we approach the end of their camper years, there are lots of emotions, but also a profound sense of gratitude. Your daughters have blossomed into such wonderful girls, and I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to have shared this summer with them. While this may be their last summer as campers, Romaca will always hold a special place in their hearts, and new adventures and chapters await them. Thank you for entrusting us with your daughters and for allowing us to be a part of their lives this summer. Romrec 2024 will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I will treasure these memories forever.
XOXO
