Senior A's Week 6

Hello Senior A families,

Welcome back to another blog!! I cannot believe the summer is starting to wrap up and that I am recapping week 6!

What a fun week we had here! It started off strong with Sunday being an activity packed day! It started off with Grandparents, having a nice relaxing day here on camp. It was lovely to meet so many of your parents and to see the girls excited to show them around, hang out, and eat a yummy lunch. For those who did not have visitors, it was fun to see the girls – across divisions – grouped up, walking around, and doing activities together throughout the day!

Following this nice morning and afternoon, it was time for Romaca Relay! The entire camp was split up into two teams, Green and White! The girls each participated in a relay, from a sack race, to balancing a book on their heads, and more. The race ended with Romrec burning a rope down at the waterfront. In 45 minutes and exactly 27 seconds, the rope was burned, and it could not have been done without the cheering led by Clubhouse 7 and the energy brought by the Senior As. I know they are SO ready to lead the camp in cheers next year. The whole event ended with an Alumni fake out…the Olympic hype was totally building!

With Romaca Relay behind us and the Dance Showcase on deck, the energy around camp was high. As mentioned in last week’s blog, the Senior A’s performed their division-wide dance in this showcase! They dressed in all black outfits and one red bead, and took the Romaca Rec-Hall stage, showing the camp all they got!! Not only are they amazing dancers, but they are truly one united division and that was evident to the entire camp. I felt like a proud mommy in the audience for so many reasons. So did all the counselors! It is emotional to say, I think they are ready for Clubhouse 7 and to all live together!!

To close out the showcase, the dance staff took the stage, performed an outstanding routine to “Survivor.” The audience was shocked with their dancing abilities and also the shutting of the doors, the flickering of lights, and the intensity of the music. With screams from the girls and squeezing of each other’s hands, something was in the air, Olympics was about to breakout!! And then it did! Daniel came out of the wings with the flag and the music to play. To gymnastics we all went for the crowning ceremony!!

Throughout the next few days, the girls dressed in their olympic colors, competed in various events and learned their team’s songs. One of the hallmark moments of a Senior A olympic season is the girls writing ‘jingles.’ These jingles are little songs that the girls put their heads together to write, teach younger divisions, and then perform in the ‘skits’ that each team performs on the third day. Watching all these skits, I know how much hard work went into all the jingles, and it was such a proud moment for me. They are totally ready to be Clubhouse 7, and write and teach a ‘pep’ to their olympic teams, it’s crazy!

To close out Olympics, all teams performed their three songs, pep, sweet, and cheer and then the final scores were announced! Congratulations to the green team, Zimbabwe, and special shoutout to one of our Senior A families on the win!!

While the conclusion of Olympics marks that the end is near, it was so nice for everyone to be reunited at the end of the three days. No more wearing specific colors, being apart for the day, and competing with one another.

We have now had more time as a division, doing activities and making memories all together. The girls unfortunately had to say goodbye to one of their oobs this week, as he had to head back home early and they were very sad as they had a lot of nice time with him this summer. To flip it to a positive, the girls watched the sunrise on the lagoon field the next morning. They really wanted to do this, got themselves up early, and had this moment together. It was so sweet.

One more highlight to mention, the girls presented their gift from Lake George to the entire camp at campfire this week! They made a speech, got up in front of the camp, and handed over their gift. Another marker that they are moving up here at Romaca and I just can’t believe it!

Going into this next week, we will have a ton more fun and closing out moments of the summer. The girls will receive their Romaca necklaces at our final campfire, have a divisional sneakout and campout (shhh! It’s a surprise!), a night swim, and just make the most of each moment here. There will be counselor hunt, secret show, subsway, banquet and more! We will try to get in as much as we can and just make the most of all our time here.

That is all for now, this is the final b’log and I am sad that this is all coming to an end. It has been so fun writing these each week and recapping what is happening here at camp. It is a pleasure to be your daughter’s group head and to be able to spend my summer with them. Thank YOU for all your guidance, support, and encouragement all throughout the summer. It has been one special summer, and I am feeling the most grateful.

Sending big hugs from 01235.

XOXO,

Hannah
